Welcome one and all.

I’ve found a copy of the original radio show I’m looking to replicate/cover/possibly ruin for my Sound Theory class.

I’m a big fan of Raymond Chandler and am looking forward to adpating this adaptation of one of his short stories. It’s not one that I’d read prior to this assignment but it seems like a nice by the numbers hard boiled detective story with several classic Chandler tropes.

Looking forward to starting work on it!

SD Card and Mic - Cheap Deals

I know some people have already been posting info about this across on Facebook but I thought I’d post the revelvent links here too.

Right now you can get a SanDisk Extreme 32GB SD card which writes at 45/mbps - is still counted as a class 10 but performs well above most other class 10 cards - for £20.18.

This is only if you get in it in the Amazon hassle free packaging though, the price jumps by around £30 if you don’t so make sure you have the right option selected before you add to basket.

The clip on mic that people have been talking about can be found here - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004YEWC22/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 - it’s £6.41 right now and has a 2.5m cable which is a lot more than a lot of other clip on mics for more money.

I’ve purchased both but I’m waiting on delivery, once I get them I’ll test them out on my Canon 550D and let you know what they’re like.

My Prezi Digital Imaging Sketchbook

Now that my final image is completed I can have a look back over the assessment and module as a whole.

I really enjoyed Digital Imaging, having time each week dedicated to creative tasks was something that really grabbed my attention. Combining that with learning the new skill of Photoshop gave it a practical grounding which was important for me.

With regards to just the assessment I did find it difficult. Trying to find a compromise between my “artistic vision” and my ability of how to use Photoshop was the thing I continually struggled most with. As this is the first time I had used Photoshop for anything more than basic image correction I often had to refer to the Martin Evening Photoshop CS5 for Photographers textbook, the Practical sessions on WebCT and online Photoshop tutorials. Using a combination of these allowed me to overcome the vast majority of issues I faced.

If I were to travel back in time and do the assessment again I would make more effort to picture how I want the final image to look when taking the background photos to be used in the photomerge. I was happy with all the pictures that I was taking in their own right but once imported into Photoshop they often wouldn’t merge well - either due to differing lighting conditions or the angle in which the photo was taken.

I am happy with my final image and feel that I have stretched myself to complete it and do a good job with it.

Anybody know of a good way to get a realistic clouds effect in Photoshop?

I’ve been using the Clouds filters but that just keeps giving me a really strange unrealistic effect. I’ve tried to overcome it by changing the layer blending options and adding on a coloured overlay but I’m still not happy.

Is there a better way to make this work or should I just revert to popping in an image from the web?

Went to the beach today down at Seton Sands - looking to get some inspiration for my Digital Imaging assignment.

Have firmly decided that I’m going to go for a dystopian scene. It feels like there’s a lot more bleakness, decay and wrong to photograph out there than utopian fantasy lands.
